Speyside 9 Year Old Tasting Notes
Official tasting notes
Nose: Sticky toffee pudding, espresso, spices, Viennese swirl biscuits.
Palate: Chocolate raisins, butterscotch sauce, vanilla, a touch of cinnamon and black pepper.
Finish: Long slow butterscotch sauce, the smell of a humidor (if that makes sense?) and a mellow touch of wax.
Ed's review
Colour: Medium gold. Oily in the glass with small tight tears developing.
Nose: Bright red fruit wrapped in sherry sweetness with vanilla cream and light oak. Light buttery fudge with berries. A touch of cinnamon.
Palate: Medium mouthfeel. Speyside in a glass. Full of smooth red fruits. Redcurrants, strawberries and cream, raspberries. Milk chocolate and walnuts. Light wood spice. Alcohol is well integrated.
Finish: Medium to long with more of those beautiful fruit notes and a touch of mocha.
Overall: Speyside sherry executed beautifully. A lovely, well-rounded dram, that will delight fans of fruity Speysides. Drinks at least three years older than its actual age statement.
About Uncharted's You Wear It Well
The Speyside Distillery produces an elegant, light spirit. It’s a classic example of the region it takes its name after. In this case, Speyside Distillery’s spirit has been paired with the most classic style of sherry maturation: first fill oloroso. This really is a classic combination, and one which never disappoints.
The Speyside Distillery is a tiny distillery nestled in the hills behind Kingussie near Aviemore. Its production is small and they only recently began to offer tours which is fantastic as it is one of the most picturesque distilleries in Scotland. They craft a few different spirits but this is their headliner: an un-peated, light, fruity, and elegant single malt.
The fragrant whisky is very comfortable in the oloroso sherry cask, holding its own against the strong flavour profile that first-fill oloroso sherry offers.
Jack and Dana at Uncharted name all their releases. In this case, we have a classic combination, perhaps THE most classic combination; un-peated Speyside in first fill sherry cask. Fragrant and fruity spirit from the Spey, rich and luscious oloroso sweetness, and delicate spice imparted by European oak. Speyside spirit wears sherry very well - it’s a tailored fit!
